I'm trying to figure out the best way to hook up my bluray. My setup is: plasma tv, sony bluray BDP-S350, and dvd player/ surround sound combo. Each component has one hdmi with the tvs' being used up by the cable hdmi input. I've tried to figure out what is going to be the best way to hook the rest up. The tv is only 720p so I can use high end coax cables which I will have to do. So I'm thinking I should run hdmi from BR to dvd, (for dts surround sound), and component video cable from the BR to the tv. I'm not even sure if the Sony BR will let me hook up in this way, as far as, having the audio go out through hdmi, and video go out through coax. If it doesn't, then I can always run audio coax to the dvd/ ss and the video up to the tv, but I feel like I will be missing out on the best of bluray. No matter what I do I can't have hdmi run from the BR to the tv (like using an hdmi splitter), because then I wouldn't have surround sound. Also, all components have digital optical and I wasn't sure if that is "sharper" than coax audio. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Run your cable box to your tv using component cables r/g/b, . Run hdmi from your blu-ray to your tv. Both of these will be used for your video. Run a digital optical from your cable box to surround sound and do the same for your blu-ray. That way both will give you sound through your surround sound and just leave the tv volume at minimum.
ok i have a similar setup at my house: hook the blu ray directly up to the tv, then usually the tv has audio out(the HDMI cable to the tv has both video and audio) so just wire some red and white cables fro the tv out to the suround sound. You can do this for the dvd player as well...this works good because you may not want to always use the surround sound, so you can use the tvs speakers also..just turn the tv volume down so that there isnt an echo when u use the surround sound
