My dad is dumb or not?

  • We are moving to a house and the apartment number is 1314. He is so dumb and thinks that 13 is a unlucky number. Do you agree or do you think he is dumb. I think its dumb I do not believe that.


  • ~your house number is "one thousand, three hundred fourteen" not 13! point this out to him~


  • Calling anyone dumb based on their beliefs shows your character. Please do not call, especially your dad that.

    It is a serious matter for him. Respect that or learn to respect others feelings and beliefs (Sorry I do not want to sound preachy, but I had to in this case).

    Tell him that 13 offsets 14. That will settle his mind.


  • Get over yourself. People are intitled to their own beliefs and your dad is no different. You are a very disrespectful daughter. Be lucky that your dad is still alive, mine is not. I wish I had my dad by my side to be able to hold his hand again, to give him a hug and kiss, to walk and talk with. You don't know how lucky you are. Enjoy it while it last because nothing in this life ever last very long. , and others like me the next time you look into your dad's eyes.

  • Well it's not being dumb it's being superstitious.. a lot of people are.. that's why they never invite 13 guests to a dinner.. that means all of those people are daft.. it's a superstition that the number 13 is unlucky...Agatha Christie wrote crime novels.. there is one amongst them that's called 13 at dinner.. and of course it's a bad omen in the book and people do believe in superstions .. like.. don't walk underneath a ladder as it brings bad luck, Friday the 13th is an unlucky day.. so there again the Friday and the number 13.. seem superstitious and connected with bad luck.. If you have an ornamental elephant.. make sure its trunk faces towards the door.. that brings good luck according to supersitious belief.. If you have a horseshoe.. hang it up upside down.. that brings good luck otherwise it won't bring luck... If you find a 4 leaf clover you will have luck..and a lot more superstitions.. and I agree the most unhappy time I had in my life was at age 13.. I suppose that was a coincidence but ever since that time.. I too hate the number 13... I prefer number 7...lucky nr 7.. No your dad is not dumb.. he probably was brought up by parents who believed in superstions... a lot of people.. especially elder generations.. maybe his grandparents taught him that and maybe on occasion it proved to be true.. so he sees the number 13 as a bad number and he is not alone in that belief.. A lot of people are more watchful on a Friday the 13th .. or if they have 13 guests.. they invite their neighbour over just so as not to be 13 people.. otherwise they wouldn't have invited him or her.. but superstion made them do it..


  • Do not call your father dumb. Superstition can become very real if it is something you're afraid of. Be more respectful and he may get over it sooner. Tell him that you aren't living in #13. The number is 1,314. Emphasize the comma in the number.


  • And did you know most hotels do not have a 13th floor? Now who is dumb? I don't think its dumb he is just probably superstitious.Many people are.


  • He's a bit superstitious, but nothing wrong w/ it. Some ppl think it's a little weird, but others take it very seriously. I guess it depends on who you are.

    Some people though are superstitious... I would just ignore it. Nobody is perfect, so part of family life is accepting flaws........ and sometimes people do act dumb, but that's not the whole picture of their life.

    And I think you are right not to worry about the number.

    Some people have superstitions about the number 13. Many hotels don't have floor 13 or rooms with the number 13 because of this.

    I don't heed superstitions, but many people do.
