Beat a cake mix too much?

  • Can you beat a cake mix too much? What will happen if you do?

  • Technically, yes. When you make something with flour, the more your batter or dough is worked, the more you develop gluten because of the wheat. The more gluten, then chewier or tougher the product, such as making a yeast bread.

However, a cake mix has so much stuff in it, that beating it an extra minute or too probably shouldn't have too much of an adverse effect on your end results.

  • yea it will tase like $hit!

  • dosent rise

  • no unless it has whipped egg whites in. the mixing just combines the ingredients and more importantly adds air to the mixture so it rises. so no you cant mis it too much. if it is smooth and all combined and mixed for around 2 mins (electric whisk) then it will be great.

  • can not mix/beat cake mixture too much. Pancake mix would make tough pancakes if mix the batter too much.

    Best cake:
    cheapest cake mix
add 1 more egg than required (for moisture)
add 1 tsp. vanilla extract (adds flavor)
beat mixture longer than required (fluffier cake--adds air and may finish baking a little sooner)
